Backcountry (2014). 1 hour 32 minutes. directed by Adam MacDonald. urban couple goes camping in the woods, where they encounter a bear.
i was not particularly impressed with this film. it’s not the animal slasher i expected. the plot itself is too straightforward at its core, and it would take serious effort to make it interesting, which is not the case here. approach is too realistic which is not a good choice, so despite a certain amount of suspense, overall it's kinda average. the cinematography makes sense in terms of atmosphere, but the out-of-focus shots and camera jerks quickly become tiresome. the characters are a bit infuriating; i don’t understand why so many red flags are ignored and how lightly they take the situation. the ending is in the same vein – uninteresting.
the film isn’t boring; there’s suspense and tension, but at the end, when you ask yourself whether this film was worth watching, the answer is probably no. it adds nothing to the genre.
